"Bob White Covered Bridge"

Item DSC5409. The Bob White Covered Bridge, also known as the Lower Covered Bridge or Woolwine Covered Bridge, is a county owned wooden covered bridge that spans the Smith River in Patrick County, Virginia, United States. It is located on the old portion of Bob White Road (SR 869) off State Route 8 southeast of the community of Woolwine, about 13 miles (21 kilometers) north of Stuart. Bob White Covered Bridge is a rare 80-foot queen post construction over the Smith River that was built in 1921. It served as a connection between Route 8 and Smith River Church of the Brethren on the south side of the Smith River. Bob White Covered Bridge was designed and constructed by Walter Weaver whose descendants still live in the community the bridge is located in.
